Firstly, this short story seems uninteresting for me, because the beginning is so smooth, telling about a tradition of a society. The tradition is called the lottery. I have a difficulty in understanding the nature and rule of this tradition because they are quite complicated. The vocabulary used also becomes barrier for me in understanding it. I thought that the person who gets a paper with a black spot inside it will win the lottery and be given prizes. However, my perception changes when knowing that the Hutchinson, who get the paper, do not accept the result. It becomes clearer in the end of the second draw for the Hutchinson. Tessie, the person getting the marked paper, will not get prizes. On contrary, people hit her with stones. Here, the use of stones mentioned in the beginning part becomes clearer too.
After reading the whole parts of this short story, I still think that the story is not much interesting. Even though there is a surprise in the ending part, there is no value to achieve
