THE CAUSES OF FLOOD IN JAKARTA

The terrible flood in Jakarta, which almost happens every five years, is due to heavy shower of rain, the existence of high buildings, narrow canals, and bad behavior of its people. The heavy shower of rain usually occurs in the rain season. The rain falls in high quantity for a long time, even all day long. As the capital city of Indonesia, Jakarta has fast development, especially for high buildings. So, there is not enough land to absorb the water. The narrow canals are also the factors of this problem. Jakarta needs wider, and deeper canals to avoid flood. Finally, bad behavior of the people worsens the flood. Many people who live near the river, especially in Ciliwung River, throw their rubbish there. The rubbish then obstructs the stream of this river. In conclusion, the government of Jakarta has to make more canals, and also punishment to the people who pollute the river, to prevent this disaster.
