DEFINITION OF PARAGRAPH AND WRITING

1. Paragraph definition
The definition paragraph is a collection of related sentences dealing with one topic. That is why Paragraphs consist of one or more sentences. The start of a paragraph is indicated by beginning on a new line. There are three aspects in a paragraph. First, it begin with a topic sentence which states the main point of the paragraph. Second, a paragraph give supporting details to support that main point. The last is conclude with a closing sentence which restates the main point. A paragraph always contains a topic sentence. The concept of topic sentence are topic sentence express the main idea of a paragraph, contains the central idea, usually in the first paragraph.
A paragraph also contains of supporting sentence. Supporting sentence develops, explains and supports the main idea of the paragraph, usually contains facts, examples and details. Generally, there are four types of paragraph. These are narrative, descriptive, argumentative, and explanation. However, narrative and descriptive text are the most popular text in language learning Narrative is a text focusing specific participants. Its social function is to tell stories or past events and entertain the readers. Descriptive is a text which say what a person or a thing is like. The purpose is to describe and a particular person, place, or thing. In conclusion, in order to make a good paragraph we have to consider and recognize about the concept of paragraph.

2. Writing
Writing is one of the major skills in English. There are four major skills in English. These are speaking, listening, Writing and reading. Writing has an important role especially in written language. In order to make a good sentence or paragraph, our ability in writing must be good. We will have difficulties in making a good sentence or paragraph if we do not have a good ability in writing.
However, the problem is that some students still have difficulties in writing. There are some reasons about this problem. Grammar is one of the reasons why students still have difficulties in writing. Some students think that grammar is confusing and complicated, so they do not have a good ability in writing. Another reason is the lack of opportunity. As we know that In Indonesia, English taught as a foreign language. So, the students have difficulties especially in learning process. In this case, the opportunity of the students is limited. The students only learn English in school, out side the school they have to explore further about the materials. In conclusion, students must have a good ability in writing in order to make a good sentence or paragraph.
