‘The Law of Life’ as a short story written by Jack London is quite difficult to understand, because the vocabulary used is not familiar for me. It’s also because the text is not perfectly right in grammar. But, there are some advantages that we can learn from the content of this story, such as:
- Wisdom, which is shown by Old Koskoosh, as the main character of the story.
- We can open our eyes wider or know better about poverty by reading this text.
- We can learn about the struggle of surviving life in any bad condition, which is shown by the tribesmen in this story.
- Knowing that the tribesmen live from the existence of the nature, so we will be inspired to keep our nature, or environment.
Both the name of characters, and the setting of this story are quite different than any short story I have ever read. The condition of poverty, and Barbaric life is completed by the writer’s skill in description, and interpretation. We can see it from the language used by Jack London in this story, which is so artistic, or, literary.
